100BMOSC Scholarship History
The 100 Black Men of Sonoma County (100 BMOSC) launched its scholarship program in 1996. Since that date, we have provided over $300,000 in scholarship funds. Annually, the 100 BMOSC award scholarships ranging from $500 to $3000 per student per year.
The goal of our scholarship program is to motivate and recognize academic achievement by high school and college African American youth. The program funds high school seniors matriculating into four-year colleges or universities and students who plan to attend a trade or proprietary school.
The 100 Black Men of Sonoma County support the belief that a great way to lower the cost of a college education is to enroll at a community college and then transfer to a four-year college or university.
Santa Rosa Junior College has articulation agreements with four-year institutions; our specific university has been and continues to be Sonoma State University. However, scholarship recipients have successfully enrolled in most of the nine universities in California and nearly all of the 23 California state universities.
Students have been encouraged to attend historical black colleges and universities, namely:
